The truth is:

❌ I’ve got a stressful freelance job that depends entirely on me
❌ Constantly hustling for clients and opportunities
❌ A predictable long-term relationship
❌ A flat that constantly wants fixing
❌ And a body with a chronic illness

I know, not the usual tone of this newsletter, Reader.

But that’s definitely one way to tell my story!

It's called the "Maria is struggling" story. And frankly, it's a little exhausting, don't you think?

Now, here’s another version:

✨ I’ve built a job that builds around what I love
✨ I’ve got freedom to experiment, play, and adapt
✨ I’m in a relationship that’s steady and safe
✨ I get to care for a home
✨ And I’ve got a body that lets me move, connect, love, and live

See what I did here?

Same exact life.
Very different narrative.

The way we label what we're going through determines the quality of our experience. Often way more than the nature of the experience itself.

It's like wearing glasses.

Put on dark lenses, and surprise, surprise... You see gloom.

Put on rose-tinted ones, and suddenly even the gigantic black slugs hunting your back garden will feel romantic 🐌

And no, I’m not saying “just be grateful” or “calm down.”

As I always joke with my sister: "Never in the history of calming down has anyone calmed down just because someone told them to calm down" #mood

What I’m saying is:

We have power over the labels we use and the lenses we wear.

And they do change the quality of our lives.

So here is a reminder to choose them wisely ❤️
