The 3 Refuges Beyond the Bathroom

2-minute read

Dear Reader, I see you (not in a creepy way).

If you're here, chances are that you're interested in mindfulness meditation.

You might have tried to meditate, you probably even downloaded one or two apps, joined a meditation series, or listened to a few talks..

Maybe you recharge in other ways too! Yoga, art, dancing, sports, spending time in nature… or maybe just hiding in the bathroom with your phone (Again, I see you 🚽)

And yet, chances are you still don't have a consistent meditation practice you can rely on.

Is it true, Reader?

Even with countless meditations and material available online, most of us struggle to maintain a consistent and effective practice.

Why is it so challenging? With so many resources available, why is building this practice so difficult?

I believe it's because we're fundamentally wired for connection.

We thrive in community.

You might have heard of the "Three Refuges" in Buddhism (sometimes called the three jewels): the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.

  • The Buddha: The teacher, the awakened one, the reminder of the potential for awakening within all of us.
  • The Dharma: The teachings, the way of understanding things as they are. The instruction manual inside the IKEA Inner-Peace box.
  • And finally, The Sangha: The loving community of practitioners supporting each other.

Sangha, community in Pali language (the language at the times of the Buddha), is key. It's one of the three refuges for a reason.

No matter how much I studied, my own practice wouldn't be what it is today without the support and shared experience of my fellow practitioners and students.

(So thank you for reading and coming with me on this journey! You’re part of my Sangha, even if you're reading this while sitting on the toilet. 🚽❤️)

That's why I am excited to start this 4-h, FREE Introduction to Mindfulness for Changemakers with you.

It's designed to give you exactly what so many of us are missing: structured guidance and a supportive community to help you build a sustainable meditation routine.

We'll touch on the 3 refuges, gently explore the foundations of Buddhist meditation together, and explore how they can help us in our everyday life and career, in a way that’s practical and accessible.
